October 28, 2006
Make A Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others -- a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October.
In 2006, Los Angeles is the only city where the community projects are being spearheaded by teens, Teenagers Make A Difference Day. L.A. Works has pulled together some of our brightest and most dedicated young people to form the Organizing Committee pictured here from left to right - April Baek, Angie Kim, Chelise Sudds, Tainy Contreras and Juan Gascon. They have come up with some very exciting projects all over the city! Everyone can participate and we want to encourage you all to come out and support our teens by volunteering for these great projects!

L.A. Works is extremely excited to announce that we have become a partner organization (HUB) of the new state wide volunteer database - CaliforniaVolunteers.org - created and endorsed by the Governor's California Service Corps. This means, all of L.A. Works' volunteer opportunities will be uploaded into this new statewide website, where, a volunteer will be redirected to the L.A. Works website to register and sign up! We feel this is a great opportunity to become more well known, not to mention the importance of being networked statewide to provide volunteer assistance in disaster relief efforts should such arise.
First Lady Maria Shiver's office contacted L.A. Works to help set up a volunteer project as a part of a two city tour to launch the new website CaliforniaVolunteers.org. We were pleased to recommend our Build Wheelchairs for Needy Kids monthly project with Wheels For Humanity. L.A. Works volunteers and staff took part in the exciting day building a wheelchair and chatting with Maria Shriver - Mike Kremer, David Trilling, Vanessa Villanueva, George Hill and Julie Prejean. Donna Bojarsky, co-founder of the L.A. Works Board and a member of the California Service Corps Commission was also there to show her support.
Be sure to check out the new website!
