L.A. Works Day Project Preview
Angels Flight Railway
L.A. Works is proud to announce one of the most exciting projects we've ever undertaken for L.A. Works Day: The restoration of Angels Flight Railway.
Angels Flight Railway, Downtown L.A.'s beloved 1901 funicular rising from Hill Street to our L.A. Works Day central site at California Plaza, is intended to re-open to the public in late 2005. L.A. Works, along with our sponsor ICI Paints, is organizing a massive volunteer effort to assist the Angels Flight Railway Foundation in their effort to resume operations of this Nationally Registered Historical Monument.
Beginning in April, volunteer teams will start sanding railings, pulling weeds, and a myriad of other tasks so that on L.A. Works Day (June 11, 2005) volunteers, along with specially invited VIPs can apply the ceremonial first coat of finish color to the landmark station house. This volunteer effort is meant to symbolize the people of Los Angeles joining together to support part of our civic heritage, and is sure to make L.A. Works Day 2005 a city-wide media event.
Keep watching this space for up-coming announcements about L.A. Works Day and Angels Flight.

UCLA Anderson School C4C
Pays off for L.A. Works
On Friday night February 4, Kristen Brya and Shevaun Bequette Co-Presidents of the UCLA Anderson Challenge for Charity presented L.A. Works Co-Chair Bob L. Johnson with a check for $32,000 donation. L.A. Works is proud to be UCLA Anderson's partner in their Challenge for Charity or C4C community service efforts.
C4C is a competition among top business schools to see who can raise the most money and contribute the most hours of community service in the area of children's issues and sports. The Grand Prize of the C4C competition is the Golden Briefcase, and Kristen and Shevaun are totally committed to bringing it to Westwood.
L.A. Works Co-Chair Bob Johnson congratulated them on their efforts, and as an Anderson School alumnus, expressed his pride in seeing the business leaders of tomorrow already involved in community service. Everyone at L.A. Works is grateful for UCLA Anderson's support and we wish Kristen and Shevaun the best in their quest for the Golden Briefcase.
DIAGEO - Guinness USA Uses
BusinessWorks to Build its Team!
30 employees of DIAGEO, Guinness USA took time out from their distributor's conference on January 19 to help the kids at Castle Heights Elementary School. The team, under the leadership of General Manager John Landry and Janet Becker, painted a 2 city-block mural on the outside wall of the school. The project was a team building activity for the conference, and a boon to the school!

Team members said that volunteering gave them a tremendous feeling of accomplishment: "The most fulfilling part was the look on the kids faces as they watched us paint their school logo, flowers, butterflies and even a monster truck!."
"This has been one of the best team building events I have ever been on during my tenure at Guinness."
DIAGEO is one of many companies that use L.A. Works' BusinessWorks program to help their company and its employees strengthen their team while contributing to their community. For more information on BusinessWorks opportunities, click here.
