TeamWorks

TeamWorks is a new and exciting program that seeks to explore the root causes behind some of our most challenging community issues and stimulate a sense of civic engagement. It will build on our existing volunteer programs by providing you with opportunities to deepen the experience of service and to create a sense of community among our volunteers. At the same time, you will be equipped with the tools to act collectively on the root causes of some of the most pressing social issues that face our city.

Volunteers will participate in hands-on volunteer service while learning about the community issues and creating a bond with our nonprofit partner and their fellow teammates. Our aim is to create better citizens – people who not only volunteer, but also understand why their volunteer work is necessary.

The TeamWorks program offers volunteers the opportunity to make a slightly longer-term commitment to volunteering. TeamWorks is an eight session commitment, two times a month for four months.  We ask that if you sign up for TeamWorks, you make sure you are available for all eight sessions of the program.  Dates for this session are:

November 6th and 20th
December 4th and 18th
January 8th and 22nd
February 5th and 19th

TeamWorks is a great way to make new friends, develop leadership skills, and have fun while benefiting our community.

This year we have five TeamWorks sites.  Click on the links below to find out more about each project:

Alegria (Silverlake)– learn about how the Salvation Army has created a safe haven for low-income families affected by HIV and AIDS.

Highland Village (Highland Park) – work with the children that reside in this tight-knit community while learning about their community programs.

My Friend’s Place (Hollywood) – contribute your time and energy to a drop-in center that provides much-needed services to homeless youth in Hollywood.

Angel’s Flight (Mac Arthur Park)– interact with the residents of a homeless shelter that focuses on immigrant youth, this organization helps dozens of children reconnect with their families or be placed in foster homes.

YouthBuild (East Los Angeles) – mentor youth as they work to achieve their high school diplomas and learn construction skills in East Los Angeles.
