About David
Besides L.A. Works, David has been active in recent
years in politics and pc user groups. After college,
he spent several years in Washington, D.C. working on
Capitol Hill. He then returned to California and studied
marketing in business school and managed the marketing
operations of a small microfilm company after finishing
his MBA. He was a board member for three years of the
Los Angeles County Young Democrats and board member
and program director for a year and a half of the Los
Angeles Computer Society. Since becoming involved with
the Let’s Read program he has pushed aside the
typical MBA career trajectory, taking on jobs that don’t
require his undivided attention, so he has time to focus
on Let’s Read.
David's Views on Volunteering
" My efforts with L.A. Works have been amongst
the most enriching and gratifying of my life. I’ve
been lucky to have had the chance to work with many
many wonderful, bright, energetic, and curious kids
over the last several years. If “giving is receiving”
then volunteering is the surest route to a giant windfall.
It’s a terrific opportunity for most people. It
gives them that rare opportunity to do work they really
love. It also gives them a chance to develop skills
and take on responsibilities that they may not otherwise
have the opportunity to take on and the rewards, though
they may not help pay the rent, can be vast."
"My experience with L.A. Works has been very rewarding
and fruitful. Peter Drucker says that over time, in
order to survive, businesses are going to more and more
resemble nonprofits in how they instill passion and
empower their employees. If he is right, businesses
should look no further than the L.A. Works model where
the volunteers are given the assignment, the training,
the resources, and the encouragement, and provided with
the freedom to develop the best project they can. "
L.A. works is happy to recognize David as this month's
Project Leader of the Month, a shining example of continued
committment!
