Project Leader of the Month

Mary Lawler
This month we recognize Mary Lawler, another long-time project leader at L.A. Works with a great affinity for animals.

Mary has been leading projects since 1996. When a project she was involved with had her painting the interior of the Friends of Animals shelter she became "hooked" on continuing care for the animals there.

Since then, Mary has been a regular leading of the Animal Interaction projects at Friends of Animals. You'd be amazed how many cats purr and dogs wag their tails when Mary returns to the shelter each month.

one of Mary's many
constituents.

While she does not lead the project at every occurence, she jumps in if there's a danger that we can't find a leader and might have to cancel the project. She's our insturance policy that we can continue to offer this popular project.

In her real life, Mary works as an attorney at the television production company of Carsey-Werner-Mandabach.

In addition to Friends of Animals, you'll find Mary leading projects at the Red Cross, PetSave, Gramercy Place, Belvedere Middle School, Amanda Foundation, Midnight Mission, and more.

She's also worked at virtually every L.A. Works Day since 1997, our "United We Stand" project in commemoration of 9/11, and at a number of L.A. Works led "United Way Day of Caring" projects.

We asked Mary why she volunteers:
" I think it's very important that people do whatever they can to make the area they live in a better place. If you don't do it - who will? Not only do you get an opportunity to meet new people, but you also get to do fun stuff! Just a little time and effort can make such a difference! It's amazing what just a few volunteers can accomplish."

She offers this to her fellow project leaders:
" Expect the unexpected and just enjoy the experience!"

We salute Mary for her many years of service to L.A. Works and our community! Thanks Mary!
