Project Leader of the Month

This month L.A. Works salutes Meghan Lee -- another of our steady volunteers who can be counted on to return month after month. She often leads projects at Gramercy Place and along with fellow project leader Teresa Castelli, she has adopted the Baby Care project at the Gramercy Family Center - ensuring that project is covered every Tuesday night!

Meghan's Story:
"I got involved with volunteer work after hearing Ralph Nader say “…If everyone volunteered 50 hours a year, the world would be a different place.” At first, I thought it would be difficult to fit an hour a week into my schedule, but with L.A. Works, its easy.
My preference is for messy kid projects. I often lead projects at Gramercy Place, where we’ve made slime, edible candy, gingerbread houses, painted, sculpted, glued and dipped eggs!

I also enjoy leading the Baby Care Project at Gramercy Family Center. The kids are awesome; we have a chance to see grow and change from week-to-week! Many volunteers at Gramercy return for this project, so a special bond develops between the group.

Outside of L.A. Works, I’ve volunteered in all kinds of projects, from public radio stations to the Living Wage Ordinance and environmental projects. I think we’re all responsible for what’s happening around us, so we had better be part of the solution.

I like volunteering because it reminds me that I am part of a community. Los Angeles is a big city, but getting to know new people and areas of the city help reduce the size.
During the day, I am an exhibit designer for the California Science Center. I like the idea of inspiring people through Science. I’m an East Coast import, have a degree in Architecture, and I like to create new things. In my spare time, I like to travel, swim, bike, and am learning to surf and play guitar."

Devotion and Dependability
If you see follow the links below to past Project Leader Recognition pages, you'll see Meghan's name there each and every month.

The heart of L.A. Works resides in the devotion and dependability of Meghan and the many Project Leaders like her who return month after month to ensure support and volunteers for the many Community Service Providers who call for our help.

We join Gramercy Place in thanking Meghan for her continued service!
