Project
Leader for upcoming occurences of Angel Guardian and
Gramercy Place Shelter.
We asked Cindy to tell us a bit more
about herself:
I moved to Los Angeles 6 years ago from Rhode
Island in order to pursue a career in the entertainment
industry and of course to escape the Winter. I currently
work with E! Entertainment Television, coincidentally
one of L.A. Works Businessworks partners, as a Manager
of the International Business Operations. In my free
time (the little that there is) I enjoy running and
spending as much time outdoors as possible.
I have volunteered with a variety of L.A. Works
projects associated with the environment, animals,
the elderly and children. Although I enjoy all the
areas of L.A. Works projects, I have found a special
affinity for working with children. They are
so open to input and it is extremely gratifying to
have a positive impact on a child at such a crucial
time in their lives.
Cindy's been involved in community service for most
of her life and has a strong desire to give back to
the community. She says it gives her a "sense
of fulfillment and happiness. There are so
many areas of our community that are lacking resources
and I believe that if everyone puts some energy towards
these voids, we can resolve a great deal of need in
our community and in society in general.
Cindy has the following advise for her fellow project
leaders: "Be flexible. The more flexibility
you bring to your projects the more effective the project
will be because you will be prepared for various situations.
I always bring a variety of projects that can be used
in case there are more/less volunteers or children.
I also make sure to have projects that suit different
ages. I always like to choose a theme and bring several
activities that tie back to the theme so that the children
can learn while having a great time. I also try to
keep several short projects involved in order to adapt
to the children's shorter attention spans."
Cindy is yet another example of how a long-time volunteer
can increase their involvement through leading Projects.
Consider becoming a Project Leader today. Each leader
who joins us increases the number of volunteer opportunities
we can present each month! Thanks Cindy - for being
such a leader in our community!
