Project Leader of the Month

This month L.A. Works would like to recognize one of its most active new Project Leaders -- Bobbi Marin.
Bobbi has worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory for the past 12 years as a secretary to 51 engineers and she still has energy to be involved in many volunteer projects.

As an L.A. Works Project Leader she has led monthly projects at the Languille Emergency Shelter for Women, Friends of Animals, and the L.A. Food Bank. In addition, she volunteers for many projects at JPL. She has has been the Chairperson for JPLs Annual American Heritage Week for the last three years, Coordinator for Music-on-the-Mall -- a monthly lunchtime concert in the mall area of the lab, and Volunteer Recruiter for the annual Health Faire. She is on the Directors Advisory Council for Women (ACW), a council of appointed women to hear the voice of women in the lab.

She is the Public Relations Coordinator for her ministry, (Transformation Ministries, Int’l.) and volunteers weekly for the Los Angeles Police Historical Society in Highland Park. She is also a “White Suiter” for the grand Tournament of Roses.

She still finds time to spend with her family, her daughter and three beautiful grandchildren, ages 15, 11 & 8.

We commend Bobbi for the many projects she leads each month -- but also, for the terrific job she does communicating with her volunteers. Her "best practice" is sending wonderful emails to all her volunteers, before and after the project. She never forgets to thank her volunteers, and uses the opportunity to recruit them for her upcoming projects.

Here's an example of one of her great communications to her volunteers.

"Hello Ladies,

Well, it's been a while since we got together at the Languille Center on May 22nd. I just wanted to say "Thank you" for your help. Couldn't have done it without you! ....

I wanted you all to know that we received very positive feedback from several of the women there. I just learned that one of the ladies is out and trying to get, and keep her life "on track". Also, when we left that night, one of the ladies slipped me a note. I want to share it with you. It read, "Bobbi, this is just a thank you note for sharing your time with us - a lot of women did not realize that the turn out would be so awesome and so joyful. The music, the rest of the ladies, popcorn, doing a girlie thing, is just what the doctor ordered. Please continue to come here
to the Good Shepherd. As I looked around the room, I saw the joy and piece everybody was smiling and having fun. Today I thank God for your group."

That was so gratifying to me. I was excited for days. So much that I am going to do it again in July. July 9th & July 30th. So, if you are interested, let me know because we are the "Traveling Ladies of Cheer" for many of these sad and misguided women.

Hope to hear from you soon.
....bobbi

Kudos to Bobbi for her great work! All Project Leaders should try to find time to send email thank-you's to all your volunteers. It's a great way to make them feel appreciated -- and to encourage them to volunteer for more projects in the future. Thanks Bobbi!
