Governor Gray Davis' 2nd Inauguration Day of Service Project

Governor Gray Davis celebrated his Inauguration by organizing, and joining city and state officials, local labor unions, and community volunteers in this day of service. Volunteers painted sidewalk murals, buildings and gardened at Carrillo veterans village; and planted gardens, painted fences and classrooms in Banning Park.

Smackdown Your Vote!

L.A. Works, World Wrestling Entertainment, Participate America Foundation and Weekly Reader hosted the Smackdown Your Vote! Pledge to Participate Tour, a celebration of America as a nation of diverse individuals all united by their love of country, community, freedom and democracy. At the event, voters were registered and people had the opportunity to sign a scroll at a display of the U.S. Constitution, part of the National Constitution Center’s "I Signed the Constitution" program.

August 22, 2002 - Wine Brats Silent Auction Benefits L.A. Works

The hottest silent auction of the year - CHEFS w/out HATS--Flour Power Tour sponsored by Wine Brats and American Express -- was held to benefit L.A. Works. This terrific night out raised nearly $2,000 for L.A. Works. Thanks to Wine Brats and the many people who made this evening a successful fund raiser for L.A. Works!

In the wake of the tragic events of September 11th, 2001 -- L.A. Works volunteers were eager to give something back to their own community. To respond to this need, L.A. Works quickly organized an Interfaith Volunteer Action project bringing together members of LA's many religious faiths to deliver a message of hope and unity. The project was called "United We Stand -- L.A. Works Together." Click here for pictures and more on this stirring day of service.
